About
Wan’er Li is a multidisciplinary artist based in China, working across moving image, installation, sound, and spatial practice.
Her practice explores how human existence is continuously shaped through the relationships between body, consciousness, perception, and the surrounding world. Rather than understanding the self as fixed or isolated, she approaches existence as an ongoing process of connection, disconnection, transformation, and becoming.
Her work often begins with personal experiences of displacement, floating, rootlessness, and the shifting boundaries between the inner self and external reality. Through observing and recording seemingly ordinary moments, she explores how fragments of memory, sensation, emotion, and everyday experience can become connected and generate new relationships. Moving image, sound, and spatial intervention become ways of translating these invisible processes into perceptual experiences.
Informed by philosophy, psychology, and lived experience, her practice engages with ideas of flow, synchronicity, relational becoming, belonging, shadow, and integration. She is particularly interested in how the body can reconnect with reality, how seemingly separate fragments can form a larger whole, and how a sense of self can be continuously reconstructed through encounters with others and the world.
Her ongoing practice moves between the personal and the social, the visible and the invisible, exploring how art can create spaces for perception, connection, and self-recognition. Rather than seeking a fixed definition of identity, she sees artistic practice as a process of continuously approaching—and becoming—a more authentic self.
